Changing the name of our university is due to the recognition and acceptance of the fact that the present situation cannot fulfil the role it is supposed to, therefore it is more a hindrance than an upholder of its own existence.

Our University, during its 125 year history had several different names. Its present name dates back to 1948, and we believe its errand is now over.

The concept of “arts and crafts” has gone through considerable changes in the past 125 years, and our university cannot meet the present connotations, as it would pull back its professional development.

We need to consider the shifting of boundaries between different forms of art, as well as the international progress pointing towards the extension of certain fields, towards a radical change in their proportion.

It is now accepted — moreover, we believe, required — for an educational institution to distinguish itself from its fellow institutions. This belief led to the adoption of an internationally renowned artist whose professional and human adherence can be admitted, representing all the professional fields — from industrial design and architecture to visual communication and visual design — the fostering and education of which is our everyday duty.

The triple unity of object — image — space means that we see and let see the phenomena of life in their interrelations, which is a view consistent with our intentions represented by our new name.

We believe we can lay down the foundations of a programme for the future 125 years, so that our university can be present in national and international fields in a way that enables us to take the cultural challenges of the 21st century.
